Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2024: Ratings & observations!
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2024 nominations: ratings, thoughts, observations & solid picks!

Well it's another year for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as they're back with the new list for the Class of 2024 nominees. Like every list throughout history, it has lot of diversity & inclusiveness because that's what rock & roll stands for no matter what particular genres & instruments certain artists have done. After all, popular music is a broad term for rock & roll and those who got inducted have changed the entire course with influence, innovation, significance & legacy power.
It means not every typical "rock" band or solo performer people harbored so much will always make the ballot regardless of sales, hits & fanbases since it doesn't indicate anything other than popularity. And yes more rappers, country stars & pop icons will be included in the near future whether you like it or not and no the Hall isn't going to change the name just cause your band didn't get it while others did so let it rest.
I will say that the handling of this year's nominees is a little off considering that when the Hall usually makes announcements like this, they will notify the public few days before the actual nomination announcement giving people time to react. However this is a bit strange & what's even more odd is the several leaks on the internet regarding the nominees even before it took place.
So with that out of the way, here's my observations & ratings on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2024 nominations.
Ratings:
10/10 = Immortals, Icons & Legends
9/10 = All Time Greats
8/10 = No Brainers
7/10 = Proven Performers
6/10 = Best of the Rest
5/10 = Average/Borderline
4/10 = Marginal
3/10 = Mediocre
2/10 = Not even worth mentioning
1/10 = Not deserving without a ticket
0/10 = 💣
Mary J. Blige
9/10
I predicted that Blige will return this year for her second nomination & I got it right, she's among the most important artists during the last 30+ years serving an inspiration to countless artists with her hip hop soul groove. With said, she's facing tough competition & it's no different than few years ago. It's a 50/50 chance for her.
Mariah Carey
9/10
I have never thought about both Mariah Carey & Mary J. Blige would appear together on the list let alone getting inducted at the same time. Anyway, the induction of Whitney Houston definitely paved way for other pop icons with their possible considerations & Carey will be an FYN inductee.
Cher
8/10
She's among the most successful performers throughout music history cementing her as an influence to many pop stars of today. With said, her nomination is a bit surprising & this pretty much has to do with her rant about her snub on the Kelly Clarkson show & the committee reacted to it by giving her a nod. Induct her so we can move forward.
Dave Matthews Band
7/10
I know DMB will be back on the ballot given their namesake leader's appearance at last year's ceremony. However the experts & historians still won't take them seriously even if they know their rabid fanbase wants them in very badly. Maybe the voters will right the wrong this time around.
Eric B. & Rakim
8/10
A worthy entry & it's the duo's second nomination, their first one in 12 years however they probably won't get voted in. They might go through the same route as LL Cool J.
Foreigner
5/10
Nothing against Foreigner, they're good & had their moments in the sun. However they don't have the legacy star power as most honorees in the past had & yet they got their first nomination. It's mostly because rock fans don't accept other genres that do truthfully belong & it just like having a bone throw at them so the committee can finally move on from 70's classic rock.
Peter Frampton
4/10
Same reason as Foreigner, however there's more to it. This to me feels more like an participation award than anything else due to the fact that Frampton doesn't have an remarkable discography outside of that one album. He's most likely going to be side category honoree rather than performer.
Jane's Addiction
8/10
There's a lot of speculation about the possible return of Jane's Addiction especially given the fact that Rage Against the Machine have finally earn induction last year, this is their second try & their first one on the ballot in over 7 years. As much as they're worthy of recognition, I just don't feel like this will be their year given they will receive competition from some others & might end up getting in as side category honorees.
Kool & The Gang
7/10
Another one I thought will make an appearance for the first time, The induction of The Spinners last year proved that there's other R&B acts who still have a chance to get their due in the main way. I can definitely think it will be the year for Kool & The Gang since most of their members are gone & the Hall doesn't want to wait until it's too late for their long overdue inclusion.
Lenny Kravitz
6/10
I have thought about Lenny Kravitz getting his nomination anytime & it happened this year. I like his music & he had moments in his prime, however the nomination would go far as getting any recognition from the RRHOF & he's certainly among those who pretty well won't be inducted at all.
Oasis
8/10
I pretty much know it will be the year for Oasis & it certainly happened at the right time since the 30th anniversary of their debut Definitely Maybe. They will get inducted, however I don't think it's their time given the fact that the Gallagher brothers are not in good terms & the band haven't been together for 15 years plus others as Radiohead, Beck, The White Stripes didn't get in on their 1st try (although RH returned & got inducted) so it might take few nominations & years for the voters to finally catch up with them.
Ozzy Osbourne
8/10
Never thought Ozzy will be nominated for his solo work let alone inducted & it's a good chance that he gets his possible second honor while he's still here. Given that Black Sabbath were nominated 8 times during the first 10 year eligibility period & his current health status proves that the voters cannot look past him. Plus he's the only metal act on the ballot so his chances are looking solid.
Sinead O'Connor
5/10
Ngl, O'Connor's first nomination feels more sentimental than artistic given her recent passing. As such, she probably would be better off as an side category honoree than a full fledged performer since her career & discography was pretty much borderline outside of Nothing Compares 2U.
Sade
7/10
They pretty much won't have a chance since there's so much competition & I pretty much don't think they will be returning either. Sade are another case of "being nominated but not inducted at all" thing. However, they might get few more nominations before they finally get voted in.
Tribe Called Quest
9/10
It's the quartet's third consecutive nomination & let's this be their victory since they were up against Eminem & Missy Elliott. They have a remarkable discography & were a major force in the landscape of alternative hip hop.
So based on the statements above, here's who I think will be inducted:
Mariah Carey
Cher
DMB
Foreigner
Kool & The Gang
Ozzy Osbourne
Tribe
This might be an interesting year for the side categories: Early/Musical Influence, Musical Excellence & Ahmet Ertugun Award. So without further ado, here's the picks who might be solid for 2024.
John Coltrane
Peter Tosh
Big Mama Thornton
DEVO
MC5
John Cale
Tom Wilson
These are my predictions, I literally don't expect anything from the list so it's a free-for-all as they're no sure locks & guarantees. See ya at the end of April!
