RRHOF inductee ratings & observations #17

RRHOF inductee ratings & observations #17

We're looking at the Class of 2002.

Ratings:

10/10 = Immortals, Icons & Legends
9/10 = All Time Greats
8/10 = No Brainers
7/10 = Proven Performers
6/10 = Best of the Rest
5/10 = Average/Borderline
4/10 = Marginal
3/10 = Mediocre
2/10 = Not even worth mentioning
1/10 = Not deserving without a ticket
0/10 = 💣

Performers:

Isaac Hayes

7/10

Hayes was an accomplished songwriters & considered among figures in Southern soul music, he created "Theme from Shaft" for the 1971 movie & made the song one of the most recognizable pieces in the history of music.

Brenda Lee

6/10

Other than being a hitmaker, I can't find anything remarkable about Brenda Lee & her discography except she's been inducted into other Halls of Fame.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

9/10

Tom Petty was among the most important songwriters of all time, known for work with his band The Heartbreakers & solo career. Also worth noting he founded The Traveling Wilburys with four other inductees while he was an essential to heartland rock.

Gene Pitney

5/10

Pitney had a lot of hits during his career but I can find anything that's remotely groundbreaking, innovative & influential although he wrote hits for other honorees such as Ricky Nelson.

Ramones

10/10

The "NYC" band are what they meant to punk as The Fabs were to original rock & roll, their self titled debut definitely put the genre on the map & it certainly made them legends of it while influencing countless artists in alternative music.

Talking Heads

10/10

In terms of influence & innovation alone, Talking Heads are definitely the most important in New Wave. They pioneered the genre giving it an art quality, while also made Worldbeat more mainstream with their album Remain in Light. Artists including Radiohead, Trent Renzor, Eddie Vedder, The Weeknd cited them as inspiration.

Pretty grand class with Ramones & Talking Heads being as punk & new wave stalwarts.
